Chris Hixon Memorialized and Posthumously Honored

In Memory of Christopher B. Hixon - February 25, 1968 to February 14, 2018...

It is with heavy heart that we offer this memorial to a fallen colleague of the FIAAA.  Chris Hixon, an avid supporter of the FIAAA, fell victim to an assailant’s senseless rampage on Wednesday, February 14th.  Chris will be remembered as a “go to guy”; someone you could go to for any task, small or large, and he would jump at the opportunity to do whatever he could.

Chris served on the FIAAA Board of Directors as a District Director from 2004 to 2012.  During that time, he served on numerous committees, serving as the chair of several.  He was chosen by the Board of Directors to be the recipient of the NIAAA State Award of Merit in 2008.  Chris was also an LTI state and national faculty member.  He also served on the NIAAA Awards Committee.

In Broward County, Chris served as a coach, mentor and athletic director at two schools.  He was the athletic director at South Broward High School from 2000 to 2012, at which time he became the athletic director a Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, the position he held until his untimely death.  His colleagues at both schools remember him fondly for his eagerness to serve.  Chris was award Athletic Director of the Year by the Broward County Athletic Association.

A son, brother, husband, father, veteran, mentor and true friend; rest in peace Chris.

The FIAAA posthumously honored Chris by naming him a Lifetime Member of the FIAAA and beginning with in 20181-19 the Sportsmanship Award will be known as the Christopher Hixon Sportsmanship Award.  The FIAAA also presented the family with a contribution of $23,555.00 to the Chris Hixon Scholarship Fund from contributions received from individuals, schools and state associations nationwide.
